Orchard fruits

You may remember I was given some lovely looking quinces a while back. I had left them to ripen a little and until I had the time to deal with them! Well the time has now come.

The quince is a very hard fruit and takes a bit of time to peel, core and chop. So make sure you have enough time. I wanted to make a lovely pie so mixed it together with the last of our pears and apples.

I gently cooked the sliced quince in a little water, a vanilla pod and cinnamon until it started to soften, then added the apples and pears. Once the lovely fragrant mixture had cooked for 10 minutes in total it was ready for the pie topping. As quite often happens I think a pie would be lovely, but then it just turns into a crumble as I run out of time or inclination.....and crumble is always a big favourite with the whole family.

It certainly was delicious and the addition of the quince made a wonderful fragrant autumn crumble.
